Labuan Bajo is compact: the airport, the town centre and the harbour are all within about 10 minutes of each other, and most boat tours include hotel pickup anywhere in the area. That means you can choose where to stay purely on style and budget.
Plan at least two or three nights — one before your boat trip and one after — so that flight delays never eat into your time on the water. If you book a liveaboard, you will only need a hotel for the nights before and after.
Best areas to stay
Labuan Bajo town & harbour
Walk to restaurants, bars, dive shops and the boat jetties. Best for short stays, budget travellers and night-life. Rooms higher up the hill have the best sunset views.
Marina & harbourfront
The newer waterfront south of the old harbour, with the marina and modern resorts such as Meruorah. Easy boat departures and sunset views.
Waecicu Beach
About 10 minutes north of town, a quieter bay lined with the area’s best resorts. Choose it for a pool-and-beach holiday between boat trips.
Near the airport
Handy for early flights. International chain hotels offer reliable quality a few minutes from the terminal.
Private islands
Resorts on islands such as Seraya and Kanawa put you right on the reef, 30–45 minutes by boat from town. Magical, but less flexible for day trips.
